The Merriam Webster dictionary has an annual “Word Of The Year” Contest. They pick a number of finalists, and allow the site users to vote for the top word of the year. This year, facebook is up for the honors.

The nomination is a high indicator of the influence of social media and networking online has had in the last year.
Past winners of the award were:
2006 – “Truthiness” (Steven Colbert)
2005 – “Integrity”
2004 – “Blog”
2003 – “Democracy”

Aw man, “douchebag” didn’t make the list. That would have been my pick
You know facebook has to be getting popular if even an old guy like me started using it.
I’m surprised myspace wasn’t in the running over the last 2 years. What the hell is truthiness?
